Plasma heparin-precipitable fraction in leprosy patients.

چکیده

The heparin-precipitahle fraction ( HPF ) present in low concentrations in the plasma of normal individuals and elevated in some dis~ases was first characterized and studied by Smith ( 15) and Smith and Von Korf-f ( 10) in 1957. This fraction was demonstrated to be a "fibrinogen-like" protein that precipitated in vitro in cooled heparinized plasma. Smith reported significant increases of HPF in severn I inflammatory and necrotizing conditions, and more recently, Harville et al. (~) found a correlation between the elevation of HPF and certain disease states involving a necrotizing vasculitis. Varying degrees of vasculitis and cutaneous necrosis are associated with reactions in leprosy (8, 13 , 19), and for this reason a study of the occurrence of HPF in reactional episodes and its possible association with other phenomena was undertaken.

Interactions among heparin, cold-insoluble globulin, and fibrinogen in formation of the heparin-precipitable fraction of plasma.

Fibrinogen and the cold-insoluble globulin of plasma (CIg) are the main protein components of the heparin-precipitable fraction of normal plasma. The interactions among these proteins and heparin were examined. Heparin formed a cold-precipitable complex with purified CIg or with mixtures of CIg and fibrinogen but not with purified fibrinogen alone. Cryoprecipitation was augmented by addition of...

Plasma antiheparin activity and the heparin precipitable fraction of plasma in rheumatoid arthritis.

An increase in the antiheparin activity of the plasma occurs in conditions in which there is an increased tendency to thrombosis. Thus an increase in antiheparin activity occurs in the week or two after surgery (Godal and Fichera, 1961; HolgerMadsen and Schi0ler, 1959; Gormsen and Haxholdt, 1960), after myocardial infarction (Beaumont, Chevalier, and Lenegre, 1948; Holger-Madsen, 1960), and aft...

Distribution of plasma fibronectin (cold-insoluble globulin) and components of the factor VIII complex after heparin-induced precipitation of plasma.

Factor VIII procoagulant (VIII:C) activity, factor VIII coagulant antigen (VIII:CAg), von Willebrand ristocetin cofactor (VIIIR:RC) activity, factor VIII-related antigen (VIIIR:Ag), and plasma fibronectin (CIg; cold-insoluble globulin) were measured in the heparin precipitable fraction (HPF) and heparin supernatant fraction (HS) of normal human plasma. Following heparin induced precipitation, m...

Urinary excretion of hydroxyproline in leprosy.

Urinary excretion of hydroxyproline has been studied in patients with different types of leprosy. The mean average daily excretion is highest in lepromatous leprosy as compared with other forms of leprosy or normal controls. The most striking feature is the “spiky” pattern of the excretion with very wide fluctuations in the daily output observed in lepromatous leprosy patients in reaction. This...

A lipid-protein fraction in rheumatoid plasma precipitable with chondroitin sulfate after euglobulin removal.

Acid mucopolysaccharides of human plasma have been observed ( 1 ) to vary as do acute phase reactants, i.e., to increase nonspecifically in any inflammatory state. The euglobulin fraction itself with which the acid mucopolysaccharides were associated increased also in such circumstances. On later comparing levels of acid mucopolysaccharides in samples of serum and plasma drawn simultaneously, i...
